Bored
And here I am completely and utterly bored and procrastinating. I should be studying but cant seem to get motivated enough to do so. I will eventually post up a whole heap of photos of the past 3 months of void and try to give as much detail as possible. When I have the time to do so.
Update
Well its been a hectic spring/summer, Christmas, New Years and Australia Day. So its been ages since I’ve posted anything basically theres been around 5 trips not blogged. From what I can remember a few of the trips involved fishing for Luderic and the other at Windang Island. Ill eventually get around to blogging this stuff.
As for up coming events we’ve decided to go to the Gold Coast. I’m not sure if theres going to be any fishing going on but well just have to see. Unfortunately I will not be going, since a week after ill be in New Zealand. But I might just go fishing there XD.

Fisho’s: Me, Boris, Jerry and Nak
Report: We arrived at our destination at around 7am and there was already an old man fishing at the spot. While we were setting up, he landed a trevally. He was hooked on to fish multiple times while we were setting up but dropped them near the rocks. We should had setup the same as him but instead we all went for floats. We started fishing and while we waited, he hauled in fish after fish. He had also caught a sting ray sometime before we showed up, which was kept under a rock. Jerry and Nak switched to sinker setup to tried to fish the area where the old man was fishing. Nak was the only successful one, trevally almost instantly. Pretty good size, at around 35cm. Two more trevally was hauled in by nak but they were barely legal and without a ruler to confirm, they were released. A funny quote “if it needs to be measured, its not big enough” lol. The old man caught enough fish, I assumed, and went home. From what i saw, i estimate he had 7 trevally and that stingray. Not bad a quick morning session. Us, we have a long day ahead.
Nak continued to fish for trevally and landed a great bream instead. Around the 35cm trevally size. It was released.
And another not long later. Also released.
I was still using float and still no result. Boris has given up and has gone into chill out mode. I decided to berley up using a mixture of old bread, water and tuna oil. I thought this would bring the trevally closer to the rocks and fire them up. As I chucked the berley into water, Jerry spotted fish. I took a look to confirm this and was amazed, there was large school of luderick amongst the berley. Immediately Jerry got his blackfish setup out and started fishing. He used bread at first with no result, then switched the cabbage weed. Straight away he was on, we all watched while Jerry landed the fish. Success, finally caught a luderick (blackfish). Wasn’t small either, near the 40cm mark.
Again Jerry was on, first cast after the last fish. Another blackfish of the same size was landed. We all thought this was it, full bag of fish for everybody. I was on for a brief moment but dropped the fish. They were still down there but some reason we couldn’t catch them anymore. I gave up after I snagged and lost my hook, Jerry gave up soon after. Boris had a go using Jerry’s rod and he landed his first blackfish. Again it was the same size as the others.
I tried my luck using Jerry’s rod next with no result. Nak was next to try and nothing again. It was 10am, we decided to pack up, go find something to eat and then finish the rest of our bait at ‘The rock’. We had heaps of bait left, almost 1 and a half bag left. That’s not normal.
We arrived at the rock at around 12 and started fishing. It was so quite, our baits remained untouched. Even after half a bag of pilchard as berley, there wasn’t any fish activity. We were all tired, everybody was lazy mode fishing. Nak lying on a rock when his bait was slammed. He jumped up and started fighting the fish. We all jumped up. It was a big bream, around the size of the blackfish, near 40cm. It was released.
No more bites, at 2pm we threw the rest of the bait into the water and packed up. There were still more than 3/4 of a bag left.
Loot: 1 trevally 3 luderick
Great day of fishing, the big breams n ludericks were awesome. This time we had sunscreen so nobody was badly sun burnt as before. We will be back next time to catch more blackfish. Nak and I can’t be left as blackfish virgins.
Sunday, 7/11/2010 Windang Island
Conditions: First light 5.30am and Sunrise 6am; Swell under 1.3m; Low winds under 10km/h early morning, medium winds at around 15-20km/h after 10am; Low tide @ 3.30am and high tide @ 10am; Day after new moon.
Fisho’s: Me, Boris, Jerry, Nak and Trong
Report: We originally planned to try botany but decided to go to Windang instead. Arrived at Windang Island at around 8am. Boris, Nak and I set up floats while Jerry and Trong tossed out rapala lures. With no results after a few cast, Jerry and Trong switched to float as well. No action for while, Nak decided to fish the bottom using sinkers. Almost straight away he was on to a fish, wasn’t big but it was a fish we had never seen before. Back it went and straight after Nak was on again, another strange fish. Mind you, fishing this way isn’t easy, nak snagged up many times after. Losing a lot hooks and sinkers in the process.
The day went on and nothing has touched our baits suspended from a float. Dolphins showed up and provided some entertainment. While admiring the dolphins, my float went down. Started reeling and hoping for a bonito. Alas it was a salmon, not the size salmon we’re used to. It was around 45cm, we normally get 50+cm. The first legal fish of the day is usually kept, otherwise it would have gone back.
Jerry had a double hook up later on, a small trevally and a pike. The trevally went back to do some growing and the pike went into the bucket. We seriously need to use pike as live bait someday, i have read that people catch mackerel and jewfish using them. Jerry lost another trevally later by a wave.
By 12pm, everybody was getting restless and hungry. The weather had changed from sunny and gentle sea breeze to cloudy and windy. My float disappeared again, I jumped up and started reeling. As I was angling the fish, I saw a blue flash and instantly thought it was a bonito. After landing it, I was disappointed that it wasn’t a bonito but at the same time happy because it was the largest tailor I’ve caught from land. At around 47cm. We need a lie detector, aka measuring mat.
Jerry was also on to a tailor not long after me, however another wave knocked his fish off the hook as he was reeling it up. Nak started working his soft plastic and he got dusted by something big, probably another tailor. Nak re setup and tried again. Landed two more pikes in a short period of time.
We had used up all our bait by 2pm. Packed up and headed home.
Loot: 1 Salmon, 1 tailor, 3 pikes
Overall it was a good day of fishing. A little disappointed there was no bonito but can’t complain with what we caught. We also all got sun burnt one way or another, no sunscreen is bad.
Friday, 29/10/2010 Garie Beach
Conditions: First light 5.30am and Sunrise 6am; Swell under 1m; Low winds under 10km/h; wave direction and wind west; Low tide @ 7am and High tide @ 1.30pm; a day before the last quarter moon.
Fisho’s: Me, Nak and Trong
Report: We arrived at Garie just before first light and started 10 or so mins after. Fishing while the sunrises with good mates on a beach, this is life for me. After surveying the beach, we decided to fish the middle. We soon found out it wasn’t very good as the water level was very low, we could see sand getting washed around by the wave. Too add insult to injury I saw a surfer was able to stand up around the area we were casting. We decided to move further north up the beach, where the water was deeper. Still no fish to be had. Finally we decided to move to the sand flats, where there are suppose to be heaps of flatheads but again no fish. Trong and I went to the rocks to check how the rock hoppers (rock fishermen) are doing. There were two blokes with only one fish each, a nice size bream and a small flathead. Seeing as they couldn’t get anything from the rocks, we decided to pack up and move. The left at around 8.30am.
The rock that day was also very quite. We couldn’t even hook the small fish. Nak managed to hook a nice flathead at 40cm on soft plastic. We don’t often get flatheads in that area so we were pretty excited. Nak then pulled out a flounder, which surprised us all. I had no idea there were flounders in the area. Soon after I was busted off by something huge that snagged me under the rock, so frustrating.
Started to rain out of no where, the light shower was nice though.
Trong changed his rig by adding a swivel. Hook-line-swivel-sinker. Straight away was rewarded with a bream, too bad it was just undersize at 24cm. He caught another one at the same size later during the day.
I finally was hooked on again, not as big as the last but again this fish darted straight towards the snags. For a brief moment I thought he had done me, I gave the him some line and he run out of the snags. Managed to it, a bream at 27cm. Would had let it go but Trong wanted dinner lol. By 12 we had finished all the bait, packed up and headed up.
Loot: 1 Flathead, 1 Flounder and 1 Bream
It was a slow day, not many fish around. However as always, it was fun. The sunrise was alone worth the trip
Saturday, 2/10/2010 Audley
Conditions: 1.51m high tide @ 3pm and 0.37m low tide @ 10pm; medium to heavy showers
Fisho’s: Me, Jerry, Ric, Nak and Trong
Arrived at around 3.30pm. The weather was bad but we needed our fishing fix. I was surprised to see other people fishing in this bad weather. Nak caught an estuary perch on soft plastic early on. The rest of us were catching undersized tailor and bream. Jerry put on his rapla lure and was reward with a great salmon. Surprised they are still around. By 6 it was dark the the fish stopped biting. We threw the rest of the pilchards in and packed up.
Fun little session.
Loot: Perch and Salmon
